DeMya Checks In
Hey Sun Fans!
Do you miss us yet? We miss you. It has only been a little over two weeks since the season ended, but without basketball every day, my days seems to go much slower, LOL. But since I’m not leaving ‘til December (most likely)…I thought I would write and chat with y’all and let you know how off-season life has been.
First thing is my daughter is now in full-time school. As a traveling parent, this has been quite an adjustment. I am used to dropping her off, based on my practice schedule, and keeping her home to hang out with me on my off days. Well now she has to go everyday and she can’t be late O_O!!! Huge adjustment for me!! But after a couple weeks of doing it, I am happy to say that my daughter now has a bedtime and has only been late to school once. In addition to drop off and pick up duties, there is also dance class and cheerleading practice! Not to mention I have to work out every day. Nevertheless, despite what appears to be a busy off-season mommy schedule, I’m actually pretty bored without my friends and teammates to entertain me. I have never watched so many movies in all my life!
Second thing is, I think I might be too competitive for youth sports. I also think I am an embarrassing parent. I expect perfection way too much for four-year-old sports. I took over my daughter’s first cheer practice to get her to learn the cheers faster. A parent should not step on the toes of the head coach, but it is very hard not to do when you are a professional athlete and your child only responds to you. Needless to say, I’m going to work on that, but I can’t guarantee quick results! I mean, there is a game this Saturday, hahahaha! Winning and keeping the fans spirits high is all I can think about ;-).
Lastly, I am enjoying the time I get to spend doing the simple things. I am planning on remodeling my daughter’s room and testing my house painting skills. I am excited to do a lot of things that, as year-round athletes, we never get to do. I think I might even be able to fit a vacation in somewhere!! There are so many new experiences that I am looking forward to.
I hope your transition into fall and football season is going well. Miss you guys!
Be safe,
D.
