A Chance Encounter with Lisa Leslie

Lisa Leslie was walking towards the car that would take her back to her mom’s house after she had finished filming an upcoming game show for the Sci-Fi Channel when a kid came to a screeching halt on his bicycle right in front of her. This fourth grader’s name was Charles and he was just staring at her as if he was dreaming. Leslie looked down at him and said “Hi” and he said “You’re Lisa Leslie.” “I am,” she replied. He proceeded to tell her that he had just left school where he had to give a presentation on an inspiring athlete from Los Angeles and he had chosen her. As any role model would, Lisa asked him how he was doing in school and told him to bring his B’s up to A’s and make sure he came to a game during the 2009 season. The boy said he would and went on his way.

As she continued to the car, she was stopped by the show’s producer who needed some additional paperwork filled out. This process couldn’t have taken more than seven minutes and next thing you know, Charles is racing towards her on his bike, this time with his cousin in tow, frantically waving papers in the air and shouting, “Lisa! Lisa!”

As he approached, he showed her his presentation that included a drawing of her with all of her statistical information and a bright red “A” prominently displayed at the top of the paper. Lisa looked down at him and said, “Wow, you’re fast and congratulations. Thanks for doing a presentation on me. I really hope to see you at a game next year; I’m giving you our PR Director’s information, make sure you call her and she’ll make sure you get to a game.”

She got into the car and drove away and Charles stood there waving knowing that he would always remember the day that he had a chance encounter with Lisa Leslie.
