Tuesday Practice Report
After a brief All-Star weekend intermission, the Minnesota Lynx were back on the grind Tuesday afternoon, preparing for a tough task ahead of them.
The Lynx will face the league-leading Atlanta Dream tomorrow night, looking to avenge a previous disappointing effort against the Dream, losing 76-58 on July 1. Although the loss was suffered just over a week ago, the Lynx believe they are a much different team now, due to a recent convincing victory over San Antonio.
"We think the loss in the Atlanta game was maybe a turning point of the season for us," Cheryl Reeve said. "We just did not like who we were in that game and I think we determined from then on, that we did not want to be that team anymore."
The Lynx spent today's practice working solely on ways to overcome the Dream. Considering their last matchup, Minnesota knows that Atlanta enjoys pushing the ball on offense and guarding the perimeter tightly.
"Today we watched a lot of film and reviewed our scouting reports, just studying things that they are going to do and things that we would like to do against them," Lindsay Whalen said. "Atlanta does a really good job at pushing the ball, so we have to get back on defense, and they got a bunch of steals against us so we just have to be ready for that kind of pressure when we have the ball."
As the team moves forward, now in the second half of the season, coach Reeve reflected on the team's revamped goals at the end of practice.
"We want to be a good team, not a team that just sneaks into the playoffs and gets bounced early, we want to be a legitimate playoff team competing for the Western Conference championship."
The Lynx could definitely prove to be just that, if they able to knock off Atlanta tomorrow night. Tipoff is set for 12 PM at Target Center.
